Air Gliders
AS/AE | December 20 - 01:00 PM
For the competition the team must design, fabricate, and demonstrate a glider which can fly with maximum range and endurance. Range is the distance covered on the ground, whereas endurance is the time when airborne. Any lightweight object can have endurance, but the aerodynamic characteristics when included range can be obtained. The event will have two separate rounds where the range and endurance will be separately measured and adding up the points for both the rounds finds the winner.
Event Rules
1. The Glider has to be designed with high-density thermocol sheets. 2. Wax paper, masking tapes, cutting boards can be used. 3. Only glue gun sticks, or other adhesive can be used for attaching the material. 4. No use of any metal or other materials other than specified. 5. The maximum wingspan allowed is 400mm. 6. Catapult glide launchers fabricated during the competition can be used. No commercially available launchers can be used. 7. The stability of the glider should be one of the design considerations. 8. Participants can compete individually or in a team of 2-4 members.
Judging Criteria
The Participants are judged based on: 1.Round 1: Glider endurance is judged (longest airborne time). 2.Round 2: Range is assessed (longest ground distance). 3.Scores from both rounds are combined for the final ranking. 4.Stability and adherence to the design rules are critical.
