Mechanical
A Mechanical Engineer feels great power when given the chance to design a component and give flesh to his ideas. But little do they know about the client’s constant mood-swings and design changes. This CAD modelling competition tests the engineer’s ability to adapt to quick design changes.
Event Overview
Round 1: Qualifier Round
1. Participants are required to generate a 3D model from the given part drawing.
2. The model will be checked for dimensional accuracy and completion within the stipulated time based on complexity of the part.
3. Two surprise design changes will be made during the courses of the competition. Participants are to incorporate the changes for extra points.
4. The participants who reach the qualification scores qualify for round 2.
Round 2: Final round:
1. The participants are given an actual object in hand. They will be given 10 minutes to inspect the component and physically take measurements of the dimensions they may require for modelling the component.
2. No requests or measurement may be encouraged after the allotted time.
3. Scales and tools for measuring will be provided to the participants.
4. The participants that model the component most accurately may be declared the winner.
Rules and Regulations:
1. The software used for modelling shall be Solid Edge
2. Round One will be judged on basis of accuracy, following proper engineering drawing practices and ability to incorporate the changes made.
3. Each of the two design modifications given would carry individual points, the value which would be announced along with the design modification. It is the strategic thinking of the participant that decides whether he wants to incorporate the change or not.
4. The duration of first round shall be announced prior to start of competition based on complexity of model to be designed
5. Participants moving on to round two will be given 10 minutes to inspect the component during which they are allowed to use the instruments provided to measure the required lengths and angles.
6. Basic knowledge on how to use measuring instruments is expected.
7. Requests to view the model after the allotted time duration shall not be encouraged.
8. The judges shall be provided with standard measurement values on the basis of which the final models of the participants shall be compared. Their decision shall be deemed final.
Eligibility:
1. This is an individual event.
2. The participants are required to use the modelling software Solid Edge.
3. The student should have his/her ID card from their respective institution.
